Mastering Urgency with
Persistent Patience.

Can both be done?
I have fallen victim to the thought of ohhhh I got time! Or I’ll make it a point in my calendar to commit next month. Or on New Years Eve… Or we aren’t persistent with the efforts needed to get better or start that project we know we have been wanting to do.. We fit it in where we can. If we really looked at our days. A fair amount of us prioritize comforts naturally, over taking that time to do the things your wanting or know your needing to really do! I get it we have busy lives. BUT are you living the life you desire? Or trying to be the person you want to be? The longer we wait. The more excuses we will make. I’m saying all this from a place of love. Truly hear my heart. If I didn’t care I wouldn’t be honest. The world is full of competent people who honestly intend to do things tomorrow. But how many of them really do? Also in sticking with it? So lets see how we can start to create some healthy urgency.
Understanding Urgency.

How we Benefit from creating Urgency?
- The importance of having a motivation to start and to keep you remembering why your doing it. But needing to be focused is SO important on helping you stay consistent. Where you put your energy and focus on grows. So put focus on the things that matter first.
- What we can also gain on top of what we just read. Is that you will increase your daily productivity. You will start to feel better about yourself. You want more confidence? Do the things that need to be focused on the most that day first. Or in the times that work best for you, BUT get them done!
- Urgency can be a powerful motivator that helps us live a more intentional life.
- But I do want to be honest too. It can also be a source of stress and anxiety if it becomes overwhelming or if there is a constant feeling of pressure to act quickly. So if you start to feel overwhelmed to where you get frustrated and stuck. Which is very common. Break it down into smaller items to prioritize, within the overall goal you have.
Situations that require urgency.
- Creating deadlines is crucial for productivity and achieving goals. They provide structure, encourage focus, and help prevent procrastination.
- Remain accountable to our goals. By setting a deadline, you’re creating a vital metric to determine whether your action or lack thereof is a success or failure. You’re solely responsible for the outcome.
- Being proactive. People with a sense of urgency are more likely to identify and address potential problems at work early on, can prevent them from escalating.
The Role of Patience.

The importance of persistent patience in achieving long term goals.
- Overcoming setbacks is crucial in understanding that this is the long game here. Looking at them as bumps in the road. I know that when we are in the middle of it, it is very difficult, I understand. BUT If your trying to create urgency in your life. You can’t let every situation become a bigger situation. By you sitting in the emotions of it all. Continue to be persistent in your pursuit.
- The very word “failure” can put us in a wrong mindset when facing challenges. Research shows that when we have a “Do anything but fail!” mentality. We’re afraid to admit small defeats. We need to learn from them and move on to the next challenge. Instead, we get angry and anxious and spend so much time avoiding failure.
- Patience allows us to endure challenges and setbacks. While persistence drives the necessary effort and determination to keep us moving forward. Together, they form a combination for perseverance. Leading to greater accomplishments and a more fulfilling life.
Why is patience essential? I like how Oliver Burkeman shares it here.
Here Is a great article! How Patience Can Help You Find Your Purpose..
Striking the Balance.
Lets talk about some techniques for creating urgency without sacrificing patience. Cultivate discipline: Stay focused on your tasks despite distractions and obstacles. Some may need to celebrate progress and milestones: We are all built different. Some people aren’t needing that to help them. But if you are thats ok! Recognize and acknowledge your achievements along the way. This provides positive reinforcement and motivates you to continue moving forward. But don’t get into celebration mode too long.. You have to stay focused. Use your imagination: Visualize the consequences of inaction. Or even imagine you’re in a race and need to hurry up to place. Whatever you may need to use to keep you determined. These mental exercises can help create a sense of urgency. Distinguish between busyness and urgency: Ensure that your focus on urgency, is directed towards important goals and tasks. Not just filling your schedule with activities. Think long-term: Keep your ultimate vision in mind. Patience can be easier when you understand that immediate gratification isn’t always the path to long-term success.Respect other people’s time and boundaries: For instance, respect vacation time and avoid unnecessary interruptions, this can possibly build stronger relationships and avoid resentment. Approach with Patience: It allows us to approach problems more thoughtfully and effectively. That way we don’t rush to poor solutions out of frustration or impatience. Then lastly Patience is a skill, and, like any other skill. It’s developed over time. Start by embracing minor annoyances in your daily life. The next time you’re in that long line or stuck on the phone on hold, use this as an opportunity to practice patience rather than giving into frustration. Easier said then done I know. But again its a skill. Which means you have to practice it.
