Health = Wealth

Lets talk about Nutrition.

Well hello there my friend! So I want to take some time and have a discussion over nutrition. No not diet but nutrition. There is a difference. Nutrition is a more broad term. While dieting is a specific food regimen with a desired outcome to loose weight. Some of us can hear the word nutrition and roll our eyes and think OMG this again. We hear about healthy eating a lot don’t we? Well theres a reason for that! Understanding the importance of having a nutritional value perspective added to how you look at food can make big changes.

My Story

Quick Backstory. I used to be 275lbs back in 2008. I apologize for not having any pics at my heaviest. I have always been one to not take pictures lol. That weight was from not working out at all. Plus eating whatever felt right. Is it in my families genetics as well? Yes. But to join the military in 2008. At that time for my height at 6’2 I had to be 193lbs. So its safe to say I was a little far off lol. But at that point in my life I had no ideas what I wanted to pursue or do. I had to make some decisions quickly. So I started my weight loss journey. I had a crash course in nutrition and exercising. So what did I do? I thought to myself. Well I have zero options and this is what I wanted to do. So I made a commitment to myself to make it happen. Without stepping foot in a gym. I just focused on running around my neighborhood and just watched what I ate and stayed disciplined. I went from a pant size of 44 to 34. So after few months I lost the weight needed to join. Did I keep it off? No. As you can see here. In this picture taken in 2018 visiting family. I don’t look very thin. I don’t look the same as the picture take in 2009. In fact I gained around 40lbs back from picture 1 to picture 2. Fast forward to 2025. I am maintaining around 195lbs-200lb. Once I started to really implement nutrition intentionally into my diet. The transformation was huge.

So what happened?

Well what happened was that I stopped focusing so much on what I was eating. Was I working out still 5-6 days a week? Believe it or not I was. Shows you the importance of eating the right foods. I want you to see how important the nutrition side of things can be. In the world today alot of us know what foods we SHOULD be eating and ones to avoid. So why is obesity still such a big problem in America. Well its a couple of things. Its yes the companies putting things into our food that are harmful to us. The fact that they do that is disgusting. They make products for us to buy that are killing us from the inside out. What do we do? We are buying the things we know are harmful to us.Why? Convenience? Affordability? Lack of knowledge? There could even be an emotional attachment to food also. Well you HAVE to become more conscious of what your eating. You can eat healthier and not spend a lot of money too. Its us not being intentional or caring with what we are buying. We have to be more mindful of what we eating. We have to stop being absent minded to what we are putting into our body. Your body is a remarkable design. So treat it like the amazing machine it is. You wouldn’t put dirty gas into your car would you? NO. So why put bad fuel into your machine?

  • Here is a great article highlighting some key stats in April of 2025. https://www.singlecare.com/blog/news/obesity-statistics/
    • Obesity is a medical condition characterized by excess body fat, which can lead to additional health issues and cause health problems on its own.
    • About 40% of U.S. adults have obesity.
    • About 20% of U.S. children ages 2–19 are living with obesity.
    • An estimated 25% of adults are predicted to be living with obesity by 2035, with a predicted global economic impact of more than $4.3 trillion per year.

Its not all our fault.

So do we need to do OUR part and take some time to really educate ourselves on what we are consuming? ABSOLUTELY. Lets take a look at some information that maybe you didn’t know or need to hear again:)

How to break a habit

“Are you used to getting up from your desk every hour, going out and eating something you don’t really want or need? There’s a habit to that.

“The same applies if you’re used to cooking unhealthy food, there’s a routine around that, which you have to break in order to eat healthier, as well as tackling cravings.

With switching to cooking healthy food comes the overarching assumption that healthy eating is time-consuming, restrictive and, all in all, doesn’t taste as good as unhealthy foods.

So, if our brains aren’t being rewarded for the healthy foods we eat and we’re unable to comprehend the damage we’re doing to our bodies when we do eat unhealthy foods, how do we tackle it? Especially now that the World Cancer Research Fund recommends we eat 30 plant-based foods a week.

Making small changes, every so often, can make a meaningful difference.

Choose one or two things every week or month to alter. I like to encourage people to add something to their diet first [rather than taking away], but make sure what you are adding into your diet is fruit, vegetables, wholefoods, lean protein and water.

“It’s important to find out what you are missing in your diet rather than trying to restrict all the things you enjoy.”

Watch what has been done to our food over the years!

So what Should I do?

Now that we have a better understanding. Its time to take action in your life with your eating. Your life is so precious my friend. Treat your temple with the respect and love it deserves.
